The White House affirmed its willingness to cooperate with the House of Representatives and the Senate  ( US Congress)  regarding the amendment of the mandate to use military force granted to the President of the United States of  America (USA), after the military strikes directed by Washington against the targets in  Syria which sparked a controversy over the powers of war granted to US President.

According to a report published by the American newspaper "The Hill", Democratic Senators Tim Keane and Republican Todd Young presented a bill in the Senate this week that would revoke two military mandates, effectively curbing the president's war powers.

White House press secretary Jane Psaki described Democratic Senator  Kane as "an expert on war powers matters throughout his time in the Senate," and indicated that the executive branch would be open to changes.

"We are committed to working with Congress to ensure that the permits for the use of military force currently in the records are replaced with a narrow and specific framework that will ensure our ability to protect Americans from terrorist threats while ending wars forever," the White House said in a statement.

According to the report, the bill submitted by Ken and Young would revoke the 1991 and 2002 mandates to use military force (AUMF), both of which deal with Iraq.

Senators sought to curb the president's war powers during the Trump administration but failed to mobilize enough votes.

Biden’s decision to launch airstrikes in Syria last week reignited the debate, with lawmakers in both parties voicing their frustration at not consulting Congress before taking military action.

The administration has not cited any 1991 or 2002 authorization for military strikes, the first time it has been carried out since Biden took office.

It is reported that the bill found support from both parties alike.
