Veteran Director Samir Seif Dies Aged 72

Veteran filmmaker Samir Seif has died on Monday at the age of 72 due to a heart attack. Seif, who was born in 1947, directed several notable movies for stars, including Adel Emam, Nour El-Sherif, Farid Shawky, and Soad Hosni.

His most influential movies are  Qetta Ala Nar (1977), Gharib Fi Baity (1982), El-Mashboh (1983), El-Halfout (1985), El-Nemr wal-Ontha (1987), El-Moulid (1989), El-Shaitana Allaty Ahabatny (1990), Shams El-Zanaty (1991), Maaly El-Wazir (2002), and Deil El-Samaka (2003).

The Egyptian film and TV director and writer who rose to prominence in the early 1980s, was nominated for the Golden Pyramid Award at the Cairo International Film Festival twice, in 1999 and 2002. His directorial debut came in 1977 with the film Ota Ala Nar. Seif was known for Souq al mot aa (1999), The Fish's Tail (2003) and Ma'ali al wazir (2002).

On her part, Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem mourned the death of the Veteran director  Samir Seif.

In a statement, Abdel Dayem said that Seif was a good teacher for the generations and several creative directors. The minister affirmed that the art missed one of its great stature in Egypt and the Arab World.
