Opel and Vauxhall previewed the next generation Corsa hatchback with an official set of images showing a camouflaged prototype being put through its paces.

The engineers tested prototypes in Sweden since January. Opel describes the tests as intensive and noted they took place in ultra low temperatures on frozen lakes and snow covered roads.

Corsa is set to move to the PSA Group's CMP modular platform for compact vehicles, which already underpins the new DS 3 Crossback and Peugeot 208.

All new Vauxhall Corsa raises its game with the end result being a classy supermini that’s decent to drive but still short of the benchmark set by the Ford Fiesta.

According to the manufacturer, the new supermini can weigh as little as 980kg, roughly 130kg less than the lightest Ford Fiesta.

Opel has confirmed that the new Corsa will be available with adaptive intelliLux matrix LED headlights for the 1st time, a feature that is yet to be available at this end of the market.
