The official spokesman of the US State Department called, Thursday, on all US citizens to leave Ethiopia immediately, noting that the US envoy to the Horn of Africa had good talks with Ethiopian officials amid his efforts to resolve the conflict.

Earlier, the European Council called on the Ethiopian parties to immediately cease fire and go to unconditional negotiations.

On Tuesday, the Ethiopian government declared a nationwide state of emergency after  Tigray People’s Liberation Front. seized two crucial towns in an apparent push towards the capital, according to state-affiliated media outlets.

In recent days the TPLF has claimed control of two key cities about 400 kilometres (250 miles) from Addis Ababa and has not ruled out marching on the capital, which has so far not seen any fighting.

The government has denied claims of TPLF territorial gains which, if confirmed, would represent a major strategic advance.
