US Federal Reserve Chairman Tests Positive for COVID-19

US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, 69, tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms, the Fed announced in a statement on Wednesday.

“Chair Powell is up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, he is working remotely while isolating at home,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, around 1.1 million in the US died after contracting Coronavirus since the deadly pandemic erupted in 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC noted that more than 101,000 people are currently infected, with nearly 22,000 hospitalized.

As of early January, the XBB.1.5 COVID variant accounted for roughly 28% of new cases, according to the agency.
