On Wednesday, Sudanese Foreign Minister (FM) Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi received the US envoy to Sudan Donald Booth.

During their meeting, they discussed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis.

Al-Mahdi called on the United Stated (U.S.) to engage in constructive negotiations which oblige Ethiopia not to fill the GERD without the concerned parties' approval, stressing that Ethiopia’s unilateral actions have undermined the mutual trust between the two countries.

Moreover, Al-Mahdi added that Sudan resorted to the quartet mediation proposal after acknowledging that Ethiopia was dodging serious talks to buy time in order to proceed with the second filling of the GERD, which cannot be tolerated nor accepted.

On his part, Booth stressed the need to reach a binding agreement for all parties on the GERD issue , affirming that the US is keen on the security and stability of the three countries and the Horn of Africa.

Furthermore, he explained that the US could provide the necessary technical support to end this crisis.
