On Thursday, the Regional English Language Office (RELO) at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo announced that the call for applications to the English Language Microscholarship program class of 2021-2023 begins today, April 1, and will last until April 30, 2021.

Fully funded by the U.S. Department of State in cooperation with the American University in Cairo and AMIDEAST, the English Access Microscholarship Program provides Egyptian students aged 13-18 with two years of intensive English language learning and life skills and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular language training and leadership activities. Since 2006, more than 5,000 Egyptian youth have participated in the Access Program.

RELO has conducted the Access program in every region of Egypt through our local implementing partners. We are recruiting this group of scholars from the governorates of Cairo, Tanta, Port Said, Alexandria, Hurghada, Minya, Sohag, Luxor, and Aswan. We will also recruit visually impaired students in Cairo

The program also gives participants the opportunity to gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increases their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and improve their chances of participating in U.S. educational and exchange programs.

The program also promotes tolerance and the acceptance of cultural differences. U.S. cultural traditions and holidays are celebrated and fused with similar Egyptian events in an attempt to bridge cultural gaps.
