The United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) has issued a new warning about the deteriorating food situation in Yemen, expecting that 19 million people, or 60% of the country's population, will suffer from food insecurity during the second half of this year, and it is estimated that 161,000 are living in famine-like conditions with the exacerbation of limited access to food.

The program attributed - according to a new statement on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, reported by Yemen TV channel today, Friday - the reasons for the deterioration of the food situation to several factors, including the ongoing conflict, the effects of low income, the depreciation of the Yemeni currency, large family size, high unemployment rates and irregular or non-payment of salaries for many civil servants.

The program confirmed that it is still facing a critical financing situation with the increase in net financing requirements from July to December 2022 to $1.55 billion, as the financing of its operations does not exceed 16% only for the next six months.
