UNICEF: Number of Displaced Children around World Reaches 37 million

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that the number of displaced children around the world by the end of 2021 reached 37 millionز

This figure includes  14 million refugees and 22 internally displaced persons, due to conflicts, violence, and fragility in countries such as Afghanistan, Yemen and the Democratic Republic of Congo, drought in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, and floods. severe in India, Bangladesh, and South Africa.

UNICEF indicated that the number of refugees around the world has doubled in the past decade, and children constitute half of their number.

More than a third of displaced children live in sub-Saharan Africa, a quarter of them are in Central Asia and Europe, and 13% of them are in the Middle East and North Africa.

UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and help reach these children, and provide them with protection and vital services, including education and health care.
