UNICEF Asks Aid from Berlin’s Conference to Save Libya’s Children

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has announced that tens of thousands of children in Libya are exposed to various dangers.

The international fund called all parties of the conflict in Libya to beat an accord of peace for every child in that north African country.

It urges all to protect the children and terminate conscription of the youngsters to take part in battles.

The UNICEF warned of attacking the infrastructure in Libya which could worsen the conditions of life there.

It demands warring parties to secure the humanitarian aid to the children and the needy across the Libyan territories.

The organization asks the Libyan authorities to stop arresting children of the refugees and immigrants and to find alternatives to detention.

A statement released by the international fund says that all parties should settle their disputes and reach a wholesome and permanent peace treaty to end the agony of the Libyan children.

The UNICEF revealed that conditions of life of thousands in Libya had collapsed since the break out of violence in Tripoli and the western areas last April.

Dozens of children were murdered or injured as they were enforced to take part in clashes.

More than 150 thousand people, among them some 90 thousand children, fled the areas where clashed erupted. Those who fled are considered as displaced persons.

The UNICEF statement said that the sanitarium infrastructure was hurt badly in most parts of Libya, 13 facilities were shut down completely months earlier.

Attacks on schools caused some of the educational institutions to be closed so about 200 thousand children left without schooling.

Water pipes also were attacked and the service of collecting waste is about to deteriorate that increases the possibility of outbreak of infectious diseases such as Cholera in Libya.

Berlin, the German capital will host tomorrow a conference to discuss the Libyan conflict.

Leaders of the two warring parties and a number of the world leaders attend the conference in an attempt to settle the complicated crisis in Libya.

European Union Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Virginie Battu-Henriksson has confirmed the EU's intention to play a strong role in achieving a permanent ceasefire and paving the way for a political solution in Libya.

The EU official added that the Berlin Conference will be a good opportunity to move forward with the political process, emphasizing the EU's readiness to use all necessary tools and resources that would ensure the full implementation of the conference outcomes.

The European Council's head, Charles Michel, the European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen and the Union's High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell have all confirmed that their participation in the Berlin conference set to take place Sunday.
