The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has warned that the increase in food and energy prices due to the Russian-Ukrainian war will cause discontent and social tension in Latin America and the Caribbean region.

"The war in Ukraine has caused and will continue to create a three-dimensional crisis in food, energy, and finance. This will have a serious impact on Latin America and the Caribbean,"

Bachelet said, according to the Peruvian newspaper "El Comercio". Bachelet added that the world will witness great anxiety and political tension" because inflation due to the war is causing "polarization" in a region "already affected by Coronavirus "
