A UN report revealed that foreign mercenaries contracted with the military government in Mali committed a massacre that killed more than 30 civilians in the country earlier this year.
The report, seen by the German News Agency (dpa), compiled by United Nations (UN) experts and submitted to the UN Security Council, describes the incident in central Mali in early March and lists eyewitness accounts of the arrival of “white soldiers” to a village Finance on the morning of March 5.
An eyewitness said: “The soldiers gathered the men and the old boys and tied their hands behind their backs and put blindfolds on their eyes. Then they were gathered in the center of the village and looted the houses.”
The eyewitness indicated that about 34 men, including 29 Mauritanians and four Malians, were taken away, and their charred remains were found in a nearby area the next day.
