UN in Egypt Launches "Role of Media in Achieving Sustainable Goals" Program

The fourth phase of "Role of Media in Achieving Sustainable Goals‏"  workshop has been launched by the UN in Egypt to enhance its corporation with media and inform Journalists with development agenda and sustainable development goals.

Also in this regard, the UN has been encouraging Journalists to realize its Development Goals approaches.

In her address at the launch, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova said: "On the behave of the UN in Egypt, I want to thank the journalists for their participation in this workshop."

"We share various sustainable goals and aspirations. The UN institution's partnerships with the Egyptian authorities and citizens are far-reaching and longstanding," Panova added.

For her part, Nehal El-kady, the UN's Communication Officer said: “The meeting was an opportunity to meet with various media channels to discuss the recent achievements of UN’s programs in Egypt amid the corona-virus novel.”

"We believe that partnering with Egypt’s journalists is one of our most important priorities because it is you who are reshaping public awareness and driving the future of this nation," Mohamed ElKosy, a UN counselor for this initiative.

"By bringing the UN institutions and Media together, initiatives like this can deepen collaboration on issues that matter and cultivate a stronger sense of community," ElKosy told Sada Elbald English.

It's worth mentioning that ElKosy is known for his charitable works and virtuous deeds, He spent many years caring for cancer patients in Egypt.

“Like many countries around the world, Egypt has been impacted by the COVID-19,” Iman Amer, a UN Bureau in Egypt representative.

"Thus, various programs of the UN have been postponed due to COVID-19," she added.

She also spoke on the role of the UN over the last decades in supporting Egypt’s development – in education, health system, and its human capital development.

"UN wants quality education, gender, good jobs, and an ability to raise and educate children and elder girls that can, in turn, aspire to greater things," Amer added.

Speaking during the workshop, Chief of Education, Programme Division UNICEF Headquarters Amira Fouad said that we know from conversations and discussions with sophisticated journalists like yourselves that many Egyptian institutions care about addressing domestic challenges such as those you tackled as a part of UN Sustainable Development Goal projects.
