UN: 5 Mln Leave Ukraine since Russian Invasion

On Tuesday, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said that 5 million people have left Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion.

Speaking from Hungary, UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Kelly Clements urged the Security Council to “put aside” its pisions and find a way to end the “horrific senseless war”

António Vitorino of the International Organization for Migration said another 7 million people have been displaced in the country.

During the meeting, members’ states discussed the need for more support for refugees and an end to the war. This is the sixth meeting of the Council on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine since Russia began its invasion nearly two months ago on February 24.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations, Sergei Kyslytsya, criticized the Security Council for still treating Russia as a full member.
