Polish authorities announced that the number of Ukrainian refugees who crossed the borders into Poland had reached 2,523,000 since the beginning of the military operations in Ukraine, media agencies reported on Wednesday.

They added that 21,000 refugees crossed the borders of Poland yesterday. In addition, the majority of the refugees are Ukrainian, alongside groups from other nationalities.

Since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis about 4.1 million refugees have fled Ukraine, in addition, there are about 6.5 million people who have fled their homes and moved to other cities within Ukraine, heading towards Dnipro, Kyiv, and Lviv.

In the same context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that 654,825 of the fled citizens went to Romania, while the rest moved to Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.

While Moldova received 399,039. On the other hand, Hungary received 398, 932.

Last month, the UNHCR previously announced that “the scale and scope of displacement will only likely become apparent in the coming days and weeks. Ukrainian authorities estimate that as many as 5 million people could flee the country, triggering a refugee crisis that will test response capacities in neighboring countries.”

The report also stated: “Significant infrastructural damage has left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity or water, while bridges and roads damaged by shelling have left communities cut off from markets for food and other basic supplies.”
