The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office announced Saturday that 261 children have been killed and 465 have been wounded in the country since the start of the Russian military operation on February 24.

“By this morning, May 30, 2022, 261 children were killed and 465 others were injured as a result of the Russian military operation in the country,” the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office stated on the Telegram, according to the Ukrainian (Ukrainform) news agency.

It is worth mentioning that at least 4074 Ukrainian civilians have been killed and 4826 others have been injured since the start of the Russian invasion, according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

In a statement, the UN office stated that most of the recorded civilian casualties resulted from the use of explosive weapons with a wide-area effect, including heavy artillery, multiple-launch missile systems, missiles, and airstrikes.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister (FM) Sergey Lavrov stressed on Monday that Moscow will not set artificial timetables to complete its “special military operation”, launched in Ukraine on February 24, by Victory Day on May 9.

In press remarks, Lavrov reiterated that the operation aims to “ensure the safety of civilians and make sure that there are no threats from Ukraine to civilians and Russia,” adding that the operational pace depends on the need to mitigate risks for civilians and Russian troops.
