Ukraine's parliamentarian Zheleznyak said the country's parliament voted in favor of banning the import and distribution of books, publishing products, and music from Russia and Belarus.

Zheleznyak wrote on his Telegram channel that the parliament has banned the import and distribution of books and other publishing products from Russia, Belarus, and from the temporarily occupied territory of the country.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Ukrainian authorities are pursuing a fierce policy to remove everything that is Russian and force the population to abandon it.

Lavrov noted that Moscow wants to see Kyiv as a partner, without banning the Russian language and Russian culture.

Ukrainian MP and former director of the National Institute of Remembrance, Volodymyr Vyatrovych, hailed the new policy as "important steps towards the full decolonization of Ukraine". The lawmaker has long been among the proponents of such restrictions, with many considering Russian books the instrument of the "Ruskyi Mir" influence in Ukraine.
