U.S. Delegation Heads to Middle East to Discuss Regional Issues

An interagency delegation is scheduled to travel to the Middle East from May 1 to May 7, to affirm the political, economic, and security ties between the United States and the regional partners.

The delegation consists of U.S. State Department Counselor Derek Chollet, National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk, as well as Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Joey Hood and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East Dana Stroul.

In Riyadh

The United States will reaffirm its full support for Saudi Arabia’s security and discuss ongoing diplomacy to reach a negotiated, peaceful solution to the Yemen conflict.

In Abu Dhabi

The delegation is going to discuss regional issues, seeking to reinforce the U.S.-Emirati strategic partnership, including cooperation to combat climate change and promote clean energy.

In Amman

The delegation will engage leadership on regional issues of shared concern, reinforcing the United States’ long-standing and strategic partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Moreover, it will discuss remarkable progress on the country’s economic reform agenda.

In Cairo

The delegation will discuss the bilateral relationship, regional security, economic cooperation, and human rights.
