Two Turkish soldiers were killed and, two other were wounded on Saturday in an attack on their armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) in northern Syria, according to the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

The ministry added that the Turkish forces immediately responded with retaliatory fire. "Our punitive fire positions is continuing," the statement added.

It pointed out that the attack took place in the area where Turkey launched its "Euphrates Shield" cross-border operation in 2016 to drive out Islamic State militants and the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

According to Media reports, the attack was in the al-Bab area, northern Syria.

Turkey continues to control northwest Syria and has a significant military presence there. It has launched several incursions into Syria in support of the Syrian rebels to expel YPG from the Turkish border.
