President Donald Trump’s top White House adviser on Russia Ryan Tully resigned Thursday, over Wednesday’s storming of Capitol Hill by Trump supporters, according to Reuters.

An official stated that more senior members of the National Security Council are expected to step down, stressing that Trump’s pledge to an “orderly transition” to President-elect Joe Biden on Jan. 20 was partly intended to head off further resignations but was not likely to stop some departures.

Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has joined the growing list of Trump administration officials who have resigned in response to the riot that happened at the U.S. Capitol.

Mulvaney told CNBC that he has stepped down as special envoy to Northern Ireland.

“I called Mike Pompeo last night to let him know I was resigning from that. I can’t do it. I can’t stay,” Mulvaney said in an interview on “Squawk Box.”

“We didn’t sign up for what you saw last night. We signed up for making America great again. We signed up for lower taxes and less regulation,” he went on saying. “The president has a long list of successes that we can be proud of, but all of that went away yesterday.”

He added that Trump is “not the same as he was eight months ago.”

“Those who choose to stay — and I have talked with some of them — are choosing to stay because they’re worried the president might put someone worse in,” he claimed.

In the same context, the Associated Press reported that some aides also plan to stay until Jan. 20 to help ensure a smooth transition to the Biden administration.

Other officials who have resigned are Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews and White House social secretary Rickie Niceta.
