On Thursday, President Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden faced off in their second and final debate on live TV before next month’s election .

The debate lasted more than 90 minutes as an unexpected rationality and balance washed over the two candidates. It seemed that the relative calm prevailed over the debate, indicating that the two sides are ‘even’ just like what happens in sports competition.

Trump apparently didn’t sound cynical about Biden as he used to be; moreover, the president behaved marginally better than he did at the first debate in September, which was rapidly derailed by constant interruptions and ultimate personal insults from both men turning the debate into a chaotic shouting match.

“The last debate will not be able to change the popular mood of people for the current president or his Democratic rival,” according to Elie Youssef,  political researcher, Washington after the debate.

“I don’t think it can be said that there is a winner and a loser,” Youssef added. “The two candidates presented all what needed in this type of fierce debate adhering to its standards and criteria.”

“Each one tried to show the negative side of the other showcasing his political views from where he started.”

“Trump was trying to provoke the discussion on the topic he often repeated as he came to confront the American political establishment that is settled in Washington,” the political researcher mentioned. “In this sense, he was trying to undermine Biden and remind him that he represents this political class responsible for the failures that struck the US.”

The pair also clashed sharply on their finances and family business entanglements.

Biden implored Trump to “release your tax returns or stop talking about corruption”, on the other hand, the president, who not yet released his tax returns, claimed his accountants told him that he had “prepaid tens of millions of dollars” in taxes.

On his part, the president repeatedly made unfounded claims about the president’s son Hunter Biden. The Democratic nominee defended his son denying the false accusations as he sought to turn the conversation back to policy.

“There’s a reason why he’s bringing up all this malarkey,” Biden said, speaking directly to the camera. “He doesn’t want to talk about the substantive issues. It’s not about his family and my family. It’s about your family.”
