Chuck Schumer, the US Senate minority leader, said on Sunday that senior administration officials must testify in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial after a report that Trump told a former aide to continue withholding military aid from Ukraine.

“The Republicans must support efforts to call John Bolton, the former National Security Adviser, among others, to testify,” Schumer tweeted.

In August, Trump told Bolton that he wanted to continue freezing $ 391 million in aid until Ukrainian officials help in investigations into Democrats, including former Vice President Joe Biden, according to the New York Times.

It is worth mentioning that, in a series of late-night tweets, Trump denied claims he told Bolton aid to Ukraine was tied to an investigation of the Bidens.

"I NEVER told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens. In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination," Trump tweeted.
