WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (SEE)- US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he would require all ministries to cut 5 percent of their budgets in a move to curb spendings.
“We will ask for a 5 percent reduction in the budget of each ministry today,” he told reporters at the White House ahead of a meeting with the government.
Trump’s remarks come after the US Treasury Department announced a budget deficit of $ 779 billion for the fiscal year 2018, the highest in six years.
Trump has pledged to cut spendings, noting that this is not a difficult procedure but, requires further effort.
He partly blamed Democrats for rising budget deficits. Trump pointed to the necessity of rebuilding the army and signed a $ 716 billion defense bill.
