Egypt Eyes 12 Million Tourists in FY 2019-20

Egypt is eyeing to receive 12 million tourists during the Fiscal Year 2019/2020 which represent an increase of 11%, compared to the last year, according to a governmental document.

“The government targets to increase the tourist rate to 127 million in 2019/2020 compared to 113 million in last year,” the document read, according to Reuters.

Noteworthy, Tourism sector is considered as Egypt’s economy key pillar and a crucial source of hard currency.

The annual number of visitors to Egypt is expected to increase by 50% in the upcoming three years; from 1.49 million in 2018 to 2.23 million in 2022, according to a recent report by the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

ATM is a leading international travel and tourism platform in the Middle East which brings together tourism sector professionals and experts from different countries.

Moreover, the report predicts that tourists coming from Europe to Egypt will lead to a significant jump in the growth rate; from 6.2 million visitors in 2018 to 9.1 million in 2022.

Egypt has always been known throughout its history as a destination for tourists and travellers.

Egypt has remained likewise throughout its medieval and modern history. Yet, the discovery of the Pharaohs' monuments added a special charm to it, with its unique religious and cultural antiquities, in addition to its geographical position in the middle of the world and its mild climate during summer and winter, and its extended coastlines, so that Egypt has known an obvious persity in its tourism product.
