Egypt received about 3.5 million tourists during the period from January 1 to the end of last June, with total revenues of about 3.5-4 billion dollars, with an average expenditure of 95 dollars per night, according to Ghada Shalaby, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, to Reuters.

This means that Egypt received about 1.5 million tourists in June, as Shalaby mentioned in previous statements that the number of tourists during the first five months of 2021 amounted to about two million.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities stated in her statements that the number of incoming tourists is expected to increase by between 45% and 60% compared to the same period last year. Shalaby had expected last April that tourism revenues would reach 6-7 billion dollars this year.

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Anany expects a faster recovery than global expectations thanks to tourist destinations in Egypt, and the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, so that tourism will return to pre-pandemic levels by the fall of 2022.
