Residents of several regions in the state of Jijel in Algeria spent a horrific night due to torrential rains that flooded several neighborhoods and caused great material losses.

According to Major Saleh Laraj, head of the Prevention Department in the Civil Protection Directorate of Jijel state, the city has recorded a high level of valleys, due to heavy rains falling in the state from Sunday night to Monday.

In statements to the Al-Shorouk News channel, Laraj explained that 17 people were evacuated and rescued from heavy rains.

The major added that no casualties were reported due to the high water level, and the eastern station in the state was closed after it was flooded.

He added that the Civil Protection Services used 12 pumps to absorb water from the streets of the states, saying in another statement to Al-Bilad TV, that 25 flooded buses in Al-Hadhirah were taken out.

The same authorities were also able to tow 18 vehicles, including 11 utility vehicles and 7 tourist cars.

The rains, which fell heavily in some areas of Jijel, flooded the passenger terminal and many shops at the eastern entrance to the state, and the torrential rains caused a flood of Wadi al-Qantara that swept away many cars and trucks.

Civil protection services also recorded a partial collapse of the bridge leading to the city.
