CAIRO, Feb. 23 (SEE)- The Olympics and Paralympics Games in Tokyo organizers announced that every medal to be distributed, will be recycled from electronic wastes.
Japan started
a new project in 2017 to collect all the electronic wastes which included
mobile phones and laptops. About 30 kg of gold, 4 kg of silver, and 3 kg of
bronze were collected from these wastes.
The organizing
committee confirmed that they are about to reach the required target, as they
collected all the amount of bronze, 90% of gold, and 85% silver.
Last
November, the committee collected about 47 thousand tons of the electronic
wastes. 5 thousand tons were mobile phones which the citizens gave to wastes
companies.
The
organizing committee is scheduled to reveal the shape of medals later on this
year.
The committee
said in a statement "We are waiting to collect the rest amounts of minerals
made of the electronic wastes that citizens disposed."
It worth
noting that about 30% minerals used in making medals in last Olympics Games in
Brazil were recycled from electronic wastes.
