Egypt Investment and International Cooperation Minister Dr Sahar Nasr partook earlier today Thursday in a conference hosted by the Japanese embassy in Cairo, ahead of the seventh Tokyo International Cooperation on African Development (TICAD 7), set to take place in Yokohama, Japan, from August 28-30.

The conference was attended by vice-chairman of Egypt-Japan business council prominent businessman Mohamed Abul Enein, Japanese ambassador to Cairo Masake Noki, the chairman of Cairo chamber of commerce Ibrahim Al-Arabi, as well as a number of representatives from Japan international cooperation agency (JICA) and Japan external trade organization (JETRO).

During the event, Nasr stressed that TICAD represents a significant platform which brings together various international partners in support of Africa and its developmental aspirations as well as a key partnership between Cairo and Tokyo, in the light of Egypt’s current presidency of the African Union (AU).

Moreover, Nasr referred to the existing cooperation between Egypt and Japan in the establishment of Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), as part of the Egyptian-Japanese education initiative (EJEP).

In addition, Nasr called on Japanese companies to inject more investments in Egypt, noting that Japanese investments in Egypt raised by 74.3% during fiscal year 2017-2018 to reach $162.1 million, compared to $93 million in fiscal year 2016-2017.

On his part, the Japanese ambassador confirmed that Egypt is Japan’s key development partner in Africa, praising the latest economic reforms adopted by the Egyptian government and their fruitful results.

He also pointed out that Japanese businessmen show great interest to increase their investments in Egypt during the coming period.

“TICAD 7 conference aims at promoting Japanese investment and trade cooperation with African countries,” the ambassador said. “Many issues will be discussed during the summit including: enhancing health, education, climate exchange, woman empowerment, as well as supporting stability, and security in Africa.”

On the other hand, Abul Enein confirmed that TICAD is regarded one of the most significant conferences in support of the Japanese-African relations.

“The Japanese mindset is a developmental one, aiming at building nations,” Abul Enein said.

He also valued President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and Nasr efforts in solving problems facing Japanese investors in Egypt, and creating a suitable business environment.
