St. Petersburg Opera Troupe to Perform in Cairo on June 10, 11

The Russian Cultural Center in Cairo organized on Wednesday a press conference for the Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg Opera, Russian national artist, Yuri Alexandrov, the Director of the St. Petersburg Opera Evgenii Malygin, the Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Cairo Alexei Tevanyan, the Director of the Cultural Activity of the center Sherif Gad. The press conference saw a huge Egyptian and Russian media coverage.

Tevanyan started his speech by thanking Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, the Minister of Culture, for giving them the chance of staging the Russian show. He asserted that the “Rigoletto” play, which will be performed at the Grand Hall, Cairo Opera House on June 10, 11, is one world opera wonders.

On his side, Alexandrov expressed his sincere happiness with staging the play in Cairo as part of a world tour that will kick off in Cairo. He underscored that the Cairo Opera House is well-qualified to host the major shows in the world.

The artist added that the St. Petersburg Opera headed by great artists and leaders who thought of humanity and thought regardless of the limited financial resources. They also worked hard for preserving this artistic and cultural heritage of the Russian nation. Also, he referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin's support for culture and art as he believed in the role of culture in solving society’s problems.

Alexandrov called all countries for supporting culture as it symbolizes soft power that leads to development.

On his side, Malygin revealed that the troupe consists of 115 members which form a real challenge for transporting equipment, and decorations, in addition to the ticket booking process in time of COVID-19, so he thanked the Russian Ministry of Culture after paying the travel expenses for the troupe. He also thanked Dr. Magdy Saber, the Director of Cairo Opera House, the Russian Ambassador to Cairo, and Egypt Air Company.

Next, the artist asserted that Egypt and Russia have good cultural relations. He also expressed his happiness for achieving his lifetime dream of visiting Egypt and visiting its monuments that he memorized as his childhood home located near the Sphinx statue in St. Petersburg.

Finally, Alexandrov said that there is a possibility of establishing cooperation between Cairo Opera House and St. Petersburg Opera that after the upcoming show in Cairo. He answered that there is a huge opportunity of signing a protocol between both. He also invited Cairo Opera House to visit St. Petersburg.
