Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid", starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, will reportedly shoot on the Italian island of Sardinia in early summer.

The production will involve 300 people working on the island location for about three months.

Locations scouts had begun pinpointing the exact marine and other locations for the adaptation around Sardinia to highlight its pristine blue waters.

The Mediterranean Sea island is one of the five Blue Zones in the globe that residents often reach age 90 or older.

In March 2020, Disney was forced to halt production on some of its live-action films, including "The Little Mermaid", due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Rob Marshall, the director of the movie, announced that Bailey will play Ariel in July 2019. He stated that the actress possessed a rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, substance, and a glorious singing voice, noting: "All intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role".

Bailey confirmed the news on Twitter, giving fans a look at the new and first Black Ariel.

The movie will also feature Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric.
