Emam Ashour has entered the list of the most expensive Egyptian transfer of all time following his $2.69m move to the Danish side Midtjylland.

As we always say with a great price tag comes great responsibility - but it doesn't mean it always works out. Some of the most expensive Egyptian signings in football history were flops.

Here, we've listed the top 10 all-time most expensive Egyptian transfers.

10. Mohamed Salah (Swiss Basel, 2012) - $2.5m

In 2012, Egypt's club Arab Contractors officially agreed to sell their promising forward Mohamed Salah to Swiss giant team FC Basel.

The player expressed his delight following his transfer to Basel saying: "I appreciated the incredible welcome. It is like a dream has come true for me," he added.

9- Mohamed Abdel Shafi (Saudi Ahly Jada, 2015) - $2.5m

In 2012, Saudi Al-Ahli Jeddah officially announced the signing of Mohamed Abdel-Shafy on a three-year deal following six years with Zamalek SC.

8- Ahmed El-Mohamdy (English Sunderland, 2011) - $2.5m

In 2011, Egypt’s maven winger Ahmed Elmohamady made a 2.5 million pounds sterling move to English side Sunderland from Cairo-based ENPPI.

7- Emam Ashour (Danish Midtjylland, 2022) - $2.69m

Zamalek Egyptian midfielder Ashour inked a four-year and half-contract with Danish side Midtjylland, hours before the closing of this winter transfer window this week.

6- Hussain Shahat (Emirati Ain, 2018) - $2.7m

In 2018, Egypt’s midfielder Hussein El-Shahat joined Emirati side Al-Ain on a six-month loan deal on Monday, ending speculation over his future amid public interest from Cairo giants Ahly.

5- Amr Zaki (Lokomotiv, 2006) - $3m

In 2006, Zamlik’s sticker Amr Zaki, fondly known as “Bulldozer”, joined the Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow from ENPPI for a reported fee of 3 million dollars.

However, he did not play a single match for Lokomotiv after failing to adapt to the cold weather in Russia.

4- Mahmoud Kahraba (Saudi Etihad Jaada, 2016) - $3.35m

Egypt’s left winger Mahmoud Kahraba sealed a loan move to Saudi Etihad Jaada for a fee of $2 million.

He made his debut for the club on the opening day of the season, scoring in a 3–2 victory over Al-Raed on 11 August 2016.

3- Mostafa Mohamed (Turkish Galatasaray, 2014) - $3.85m

In Feb. 2021, Süper Lig club Galatasaray signed Mohamed on a one-and-a-half-year loan for a reported fee of $2 million, with an option to buy for $4 million. The young player became the first Egyptian to sign for the Istanbul-based club.

Mohamed scored on his debut on 2 February, coming on as a 46th-minute substitute in a 3–0 Süper Lig win against İstanbul Başakşehir.

2- Ahmed Hegazi (UK’s West Bromwich, 2017) - $5m

West Bromwich Albion made defender Ahmed Hegazi’s loan move from Egyptian side Al Ahly into a permanent deal, keeping him at the Hawthorns until 2022.

The 26-year-old, who joined West Brom in July of 2017, has started in all 18 of their league games this season and has scored one goal -- the winner in the season opener against Bournemouth.

1- Ramdan Sobhi( English Stock City, 2016) - $5m

In July 2016, Ramadan Sobhi joined English side Stoke City for a fee of £5 million.

Sobhi spent two seasons with Stoke before joining Huddersfield Town in June 2018. Unfortunately, the young promising player failed to establish himself at Huddersfield and returned on loan to Al Ahly in January 2019.
