Early Sunday, Egyptian squash star Tarek Momen qualified for the final of the 2025 Cleveland Squash Championship, the first glass-court tournament of 2025.
The Cleveland Championship is the first major tournament for the sport’s top-seeded stars in the new year and is taking place between January 14 to 19.
The results for Egyptian players in the semifinals were as follows:
Tarek Momen defeated England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy 3-1, with game scores: 10-12, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7.
Amina Orfi lost to Japan’s Satomi 3-2, while Rawan El Araby lost to the USA’s Amanda Sobhy 3-2.
Karim Abdel Gawad lost to England’s Marwan El Shorbagy 3-1.
The Cleveland Championship is classified as one of the Silver-level squash tournaments, with a total prize estimated at $88,000.
The tournament featured 15 Egyptian players, including five in the men’s competition: Karim Abdel Gawad, Tarek Momen, Youssef Ibrahim, Mohamed Abouelghar, and Yahia Elnoussani.
In the women’s competition, 10 Egyptian players participated: Rowan El Araby, Amina Orfi, Salma Hany, Farida Mohamed, Nada Abbas, Malak Khafagy, Hana Moataz, Salma El Tayeb, Kenzy Ayman, and Nour Heikal.
