The Swiss Ministry of Health said on Saturday that the EU country has expanded quarantine requirements to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, Omicron, for travelers from Britain, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Egypt, and Malawi, where cases have been discovered.
Switzerland on Friday banned direct flights from South Africa and the surrounding region due to the discovery of a new variant of COVID-19, while also imposing travel restrictions from other countries including Hong Kong, Israel, and Belgium.
Entry from those countries is only possible for Swiss citizens or those who have a residence permit in Switzerland or the wider Schengen area.
The Federal Office of Public Health said in a tweet that travelers from Britain, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Egypt, and Malawi will now need to submit a negative COVID-19 test and quarantine for ten days as well.
