The tournament was held in UAE three times before. The Red Devils and the White Knights met there two times before as Al Ahly won the first encounter 3-2, while the Whites won the second one on penalities.

Also, Al Ahly won the last Super Cup, held in UAE, after defeating Al Masry with an unanswered goal.

Noteworthy, the Red Devils won the last Super Cup at Borg Al Arab Stadium after defeating the White Knights (3-2).
