The Sudanese government affirmed on Sunday that the agreement signed between Khartoum and Washington represents another historic step in the normalization of relations between the two countries.

"Today's agreement allows Sudan and its people to address historical responsibilities, and restore normal relations with the United States,” Sudan's foreign ministry quoted in a statement issued by Minister of Justice Nasruddin Abdul Bari. “We look forward to moving towards democracy and better economic times.”

“The transitional government deeply regrets that Sudan and its people must pay a large sum of money to settle rulings,” Abdul Bari added. “This regret is critical in light of the depressed economic in Sudan.”

Nonetheless, he confirmed that the agreement is considered an investment in creating a better and brighter future for Sudan and its people.
