Sports and Youth Minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhi mourned the death of Chancellor Ahmed Bakry, head of the Zamalek Club Affairs Committee, who passed away on Thursday due to complications from COVID-19.

In an official statement, Sobhy offered his deep condolences over Bakry's death, saying, “I ask almighty God that he bless the deceased with his mercy and forgiveness and that he grants his family patience and solace."

Earlier this month, Sports Ministry announced the suspension of the Board of Directors of Zamalek, headed by Mortada Mansour, and the referral of their financial violations to the Public Prosecution.

It appointed an interim committee to manage the club including Judge Ahmed Bakry Mohamed Hemeida, President of the Court of Appeal, Hisham Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, President of Cairo Appeal Court, and others.

Ahmed Bakry was born in Fayoum Governorate and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University in 1980.
