On Tuesday, Spain's Minister for Education, Professional Training and Sports Pilar Alegria said that the Spanish government will punish persons who involved in the incidents of violence and violations by the fans in the latest Madrid Derby.
The game was hosted at Atletico's Metropolitano Stadium, and it was suspended for 15 minutes after members of Atletico's 'Frente Atletico' group threw objects like cigarette lighter and plastic bottles at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after Eder Militao scored.
The Spanish Football Federation will have a meeting on Wednesday to discuss and announce the sanctions related to the game's fan incidents. They could include various punishments against Atletico supporters, in addition to fining the club.
Alegria said that there would "be an absolutely forceful response once the details given to us by the security forces and bodies are known."
Alegria asserted that the events were "totally contrary to the values of sport," and ruined "the magnificent image of Spanish football and its fans."
