Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the US and South Korea jointly fired two missiles on Wednesday in response to North Korea’s test of three missiles.

Earlier in the morning, North Korea fired a suspected ballistic missile (ICBM) and two short-range ballistic missiles in the Sea of Japan.

Yonhap news agency reported that the three missiles were fired from Sunan District, near Pyongyang, according to the South Korean military.

In turn, Japanese broadcaster NHK said, quoting Defense Ministry sources that two of the three missiles launched by North Korea fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan.

The new missile tests come at a time when US President Joe Biden ended his visit to Asia, which included both South Korea and Japan.
