Since the start of its operations in 2019, independent company SOKNA (Serenity) introduces the first-ever end-to-end funeral services in Egypt.
The project targets ease of the families' pain caused by the loss of a beloved one. According to SOKNA’s statement issued on the company’s website, “From the moment of loss, we look after every logistic with expertise and compassion; allowing you the peace of mind to focus on what matters most honoring the lives of your loved ones.”
SOKNA takes care of every step of the funeral including burial official documents, body preparation (ghosl), cemetery setup, and hall booking. In addition, the service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The scope of “SOKNA” services carries post-death services like posting condolences, handling the spread of gifts “Sadaqa Jariyah” and other forms of consulting.
The company has now completed over 340 funerals and burials and it signed protocols of collaboration with 10 Egyptian private hospitals.
The idea of SOKNA started with a personal experience faced by Ahmed Gaballah, the founder of SOKNA.
“As a young man, Ahmed Gaballah went through the traumatic experience of helping a friend with the post-mortem process of his father. His friend’s father passed away unexpectedly and Gaballah couldn’t turn down his friend’s plea for help. The process turned out to be stressful, chaotic, and extremely complicated,” the statement indicated.
"Saying goodbye to a loved one is a difficult experience for anyone to undergo, and more often than not, is made more burdensome by preparing funeral arrangements. SOKNA, a Cairo-based startup, takes care of everything for families dealing with loss," posted on SOKNA official website.
“We noticed that a lot of people don’t know what the steps are when somebody passes away.” Therefore, SOKNA is trying to break that taboo by clarifying the process and helping people better prepare with free consultations,” the statement clarified.
Moreover, the company has the Certificate of Participation for ‘COVID-19: Practical Guidance for Funeral Directors’ program in New York, USA.
