CAIRO, Feb. 14 (SEE) – President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who flew to Germany early Thursday to take part in the Munich Security Conference (MSC 2019) according to official presidential spokesman Bassam Rady, is the first non-European head of state to deliver a speech at the main session of the conference.
The Egyptian Embassy in Berlin issued a report on Thursday manifesting that the MSC2019 is deemed one of the influential gathering for world leaders who discuss ways to avoid new wars.
The number of the participants increased from
60 figures in 1963 to 350 leaders representing 70 countries across the world in
2018, the report noted.
Experts from across the globe will tackle the
future of arms control and cooperation in defense policy, the connection
between trade and international security, as well as the effects of climate
change and technological innovation on international security.
During the forum, whose main themes include the
self-assertion of the European Union and transatlantic cooperation, Sisi is
expected to present Egypt's vision for "reaching political solutions to
the various crises in the Middle East region" as well as his country's
"efforts in combating terrorism and extremist ideology," Rady said.
Sisi will also discuss Egypt's vision for
bolstering ties between African countries after Egypt took the rotating
presidency of the African Union earlier this week.
While in Germany, the Egyptian president is
scheduled to hold a series of bilateral talks with counterparts on issues of
mutual interest as well as regional and global developments. He will also sit
with a number of leading business executives and CEOs of German and global
companies as part of efforts to draw badly needed investment to revive Egypt's
economy hurt by years of political instability.
Among the numerous other heads of state and
heads of government that have announced their attendance are Afghan President
Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Member of the 19th Politburo of the Chinese Communist
Party, Yang Jiechi, as well as the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, the
President of Ukraine, Petro Poroschenko, the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame,
the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina Wajed, and the Emir of Qatar,
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Repeatedly rated as "Best Think Tank
Conference" in the world, the MSC provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to
discuss policy at the highest level in a protected and informal space.
In addition to its annual flagship conference, the MSC regularly convenes high-profile events on particular topics and regions and publishes the Munich Security Report.
