Sisi Receives Iraqi Defense Min., Stresses Egypt's Support to Baghdad

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received today, Saturday, Lieutenant-General Gomaa Enad Saadoun, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Iraq, in the presence of Lieutenant-General Mohamed Zaki, Minister of Defence and Military Production.

The Iraqi Minister of Defence conveyed a written message to Sisi from Mustafa al-Kadhim, the Iraqi Prime Minister, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The letter includes an affirmation of Iraq’s appreciation for the Egyptian efforts in support of the Iraqi issue at all levels, and an aspiration to strengthen cooperation frameworks with Egypt and to benefit from the Egyptian success experience under the leadership of President Sisi in the development field and transferring it to Iraq.

Saadoun hailed the Egyptian role in supporting Iraq, which represents a strategic depth for the Arab nation, especially with regard to facing common challenges, most notably combating terrorism and achieving security, stability, and development.

On his part, Sisi asked the Iraqi minister to convey his greetings to his two brothers, Barham Salih, the Iraqi President, and PM Khadimi, stressing Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with Iraq in all fields.

Moreover, the meeting dealt with discussions on bilateral military cooperation between the two brotherly countries, including joint training programs, exchange of experiences, and raising capabilities, as well as reviewing a number of Arab and regional issues and files of common interest.
