Sisi, Italian PM Discuss Eastern Mediterranean, Libya Files: Rady

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call this morning from Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady’s statements on Friday.

“The two leaders discussed some issues of bilateral relations between the two countries, especially the military and economic ones, as well as exchanging views on a number of regional files of common concern,” said Rady.

Sisi and Conte discussed also developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Libyan issue.

On his part, the Italian Prime Minister expressed his country's keenness to continue strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, especially trade, investment and military.

He also affirmed Rome’s keenest to intensive coordination and consultation with Cairo on developments in regional issues and ways to settle crises in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East regions.

The President praised the distinguished relations between the two countries in various political, military and economic fields, as well as cooperation to address many challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean region, especially combating extremist ideology and terrorism,” the spokesman noted.

During the call, Sisi stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to the development of various frameworks for joint cooperation between Cairo and Rome, as well as coordination and consultation on various regional issues.

The spokesman also manifested that the call also tackled a number of issues related to the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries and their development in several areas, especially the military, security, economic and energy fields. 

They also discussed the latest developments of joint cooperation between the two sides regarding the ongoing investigations into the case of the Italian student, Giulio Regeni.
