Sisi in a Week... Tackles Lebanon, Tunisia, Domestic Issues

The past week witnessed a variety of activities for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, at the local and foreign levels. He inaugurated food industrial city in Sadat City, Menoufia Governorate, directed to continue developing the performance of the banking sector and sent a message to the Lebanese people.

Sisi reviewed the executive position regarding the construction of the "Julius Nyerere" dam to generate electric power in Tanzania by the alliance of Egyptian companies and under the supervision of the Egyptian government.

He also discussed with the Algerian Foreign Minister the latest developments in Tunisia and the Renaissance Dam file, stressing Egypt's keenness to develop relations with Algeria in various fields.

On last Saturday, Sisi directed to continue developing the performance of the banking sector and the financial services it provides to various categories of citizens through the banking system. This came during a meeting with Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Tarek Amer, Governor of the Central Bank.

Amer  explained the success of the Central Bank in managing the foreign reserves during the coronavirus pandemic, as it rose from 37 billion dollars to 40.5 billion dollars, which reflects the return of the Egyptian economy to its strong performance in a record time according to the government's crisis management plan, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

On Sunday, Sisi received Ramtane Lamamra, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mohand Lagouzi, the Algerian ambassador in Cairo.

Lamamra stresed Algeria's pride in the close and distinguished relations that bind it to Egypt at the official and popular levels, and Algeria's interest in strengthening areas of bilateral cooperation with Egypt.

The meeting also touched on discussing the developments of a number of regional issues of common concern, especially the situation in Libya, where visions agreed in this regard on the importance of strengthening the relevant Egyptian-Algerian coordination frameworks, in order to achieve a main goal of activating the will of the Libyan people by supporting the institutions of the Libyan state. And support the current efforts to achieve security and stability and maintain the unity and sovereignty of Libya.

They also discussed the developments of the situation in Tunisia, where consensus was reached in this regard towards full support for Tunisian President Kais Saied and everything that would maintain stability in Tunisia and implement the will and choices of the brotherly Tunisian people in order to preserve their capabilities and the security of their country.

In the same day, Sisi received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, in the presence of Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Jan Volek, the Czech ambassador in Cairo.

He welcomed the Czech minister in Cairo, praising the extended historical relations that bring together the two friendly countries over nearly a century.

On his side; The Czech Foreign Minister affirmed his country's keenness to advance its bilateral relations with Egypt, in light of what it represents as an important and basic pillar for stability in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions.

On Monday, Sisi met with PM Madbouly, Engineer Sherif Ismail, Assistant to the President for National and Strategic Projects, Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, and Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities.

The meeting dealt with the presentation of the executive position regarding the construction of the Julius Nyerere Dam to generate electricity in Tanzania, through the alliance of Egyptian companies and under the supervision of the Egyptian government.

On Tuesday, President Sisi from Sadat City said "We welcome the private sector in all projects."

He added that "we are targeting about 14 million students out of 24 million in terms of school feeding," noting that the issue is being carefully studied, especially that there are those targeting the path we are walking in.

This came in statements by Sisi to the editors-in-chief of Egyptian newspapers and a number of media professionals during his tour of the food industrial city “Silo Foods” in Sadat City, Menoufia Governorate.

Moreover, President Sisi participated, on Wednesday, via video conference, in the third international conference in support of the brotherly Lebanese people, which is being held at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, and under the auspices and support of the United Nations.

Sisi sent a message to the Lebanese people, that Lebanon, which has always been a beacon of culture, art and thought, and an important tributary of Arab creativity, is still able, with the determination of its sons, to rise from the current setback, and return again to be prosperous and unique as we like to see it, stressing that the hands of Egypt is extended to the international community to join hands and harness all our capabilities to support Lebanon and build a better future for its people.

He also pointed out to the efforts made by Egypt since the Beirut port accident last year, to provide strategic goods and support for the infrastructure of the Lebanese state to rehabilitate the buildings damaged by the explosion.

On Thursday, President Sisi paid a salute of pride and appreciation to our national handball team for the heroic and honorable performance against the French team in the semi-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, adding: “They provided the ideal model for the spirit of strength and determination until the last moment of the match.”

Sisi posted on his official accounts on social media: "Egypt is proud of your great achievement, your mighty determination and your heroic performance. I also affirm my full and comprehensive support in sponsoring sports and Egyptian youth. Thank you. You have honored us and made us happy."
