Sisi, Guterres Discuss Palestinian Developments

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations on Thursday, following reaching a truce between Palestinians and Israelis, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

"Sisi and Guterres discussed the developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the recent escalation," said Rady."

Guterres affirmed his keenness to communicate with Sisi in light of the pivotal and historical role of Egypt towards the Palestinian cause, its effective relations with all parties and its efforts aimed at maintaining security and stability in the region.

He stressed, in this regard, the United Nations’s keenness to support the current Egyptian efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, in order to avoid further negative repercussions that may cast a shadow over the regional stability in general.

For his part, Sisi stressed the seriousness of the negative repercussions of recent developments on regional security, as well as their impact on the worsening of the humanitarian and living situation inside the Gaza Strip.

Sisi asserted that Egypt is currently doing its best to stop the escalation, by intensifying contacts with all concerned parties.Sisi, Guterres Discuss Palestinian Developments

He also pointed out to Egypt's support for all international efforts aimed at ending the existing state of tension, restoring stability, and reducing human and material losses.

Moreover, Sisi affirmed the steadfast of the Egyptian position regarding the necessity of finding a just solution to the Palestinian issue that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions issued in the same regard.

"Both leaders agreed during the call on the importance of intensifying existing international, regional and international efforts to work to urge Israel to stop escalation," Rady added.
