Sisi, Guelleh Stress Need to Settle GERD Issue

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's firm position on the need to reach a legally binding agreement to fill and operate the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement that Sisi's statements came during a phone call with Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh.

The spokesman added that the two sides agreed on the importance of resolving this crisis to avoid its negative impact on the security and stability of the entire region.

They also discussed a number of issues of cooperation between the two countries, especially on the economic, commercial and investment levels.

President El-Sisi congratulated his Djiboutian counterpart on his re-election, wishing him success in achieving the required progress for his people.

President Guelleh affirmed his appreciation for the historical relations that bind the two countries, pointing to the broad prospects for strengthening relations and cooperation in various fields.
