President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting Sunday with Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, and tackled projects of the Ministry of Electricity nationwide.

Shaker reviewed the national projects in the electricity production sector from new and renewable energy, particularly those that depend on wind and solar energy, in cooperation and partnership with foreign expertise.

This is within the framework of Egypt’s strategy for integrated and sustainable energy, which aims to reach 42% of renewable energy from the electrical energy mix in Egypt by 2035.

Sisi gave directives for the expansion of national plans to enhance the role of renewable energy and maximize its value so as to persify the sources of energy supply on which the development process in Egypt depends. These include the expansion of wind energy through high-production units to generate electricity. The Minister of Electricity reviewed the latest developments in Egypt’s cooperation with the longstanding international expertise in the field of green hydrogen generation using renewable energy, in line with the national strategy in this regard.

Sisi stressed the need to strengthen efforts, in this context, in light of the growing international interest in green hydrogen projects, as a promising source of energy in the near future.

Meantime, Shaker offered a review of the electrical work schedule in the mega agricultural project “The New Delta”, as well as work progress in the supply of electrical power in the national project for the development of Sinai, given the fact that the electricity sector is a key component for meeting developmental needs, particularly in the agricultural production sector.

The meeting also reviewed work progress in the establishment of the main control center of the national grid for electricity transmission in the New Administrative Capital. It also discussed Egypt’s efforts to become a transit corridor for clean energy, and hence a pivotal hub for electricity interconnection between Europe and Arab and African countries. This is in addition to supporting efforts by African counties to access clean energy through renewable sources.
