Sisi Discusses Enhancing Military Co-op, Bilateral Ties with Iraq

On Thursday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with Lt-General Juma Anad Saadoun, Iraqi Minister of Defense, in Cairo for talks on enhancing bilateral military cooperation, according to the Presidency spokesman Bassam Rady.

The meeting was also attended by Lieutenant General Mohamed Zaki, Egyptian Minister of Defense and Military Production.

The spokesman said that the President hailed the Egyptian-Iraqi military cooperation ties, including joint drills, exchange of experiences and training and capacity building programs.

He added that they also reviewed a number of Arab and regional issues and files of common interest.

In this context, El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness to cooperate with Iraq in all fields, especially the military aspect, within the framework of the constants of the Egyptian policy towards the brotherly country to help it overcome all surrounding challenges.

The president also asked to Iraqi top diplomat to convey his greetings to Iraq president, Barham Salih, and Mustafa Al-Kadhemi, the Prime Minister.

On his part, the Iraqi minister expressed his country's aspiration to strengthen cooperation frameworks with Egypt, especially after its success, under the leadership of the President, to become an inspiring model to be emulated in a region suffering from crises and turmoil, despite the enormous challenges posed by these pressing circumstances.

He also conveyed to Sisi the greetings of President Salih, the premier Al-Kadhemi, stressing the Iraqi government and people’s appreciation for the Egyptian efforts in support of the Iraqi issue at various levels.
