Sisi: Citizenship, Equal Rights for All Consistent Values in Egypt

On Tuesday, president Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that citizenship and equal rights for all are consistent values ​​that represent the Egyptian state’s approach toward all citizens, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Sisi welcomed Tuesday the heads of churches taking part in the General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches, which Cairo is hosting currently.

“Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark attended the meeting,” Rady added.

Sisi also manifested that the state’s approach is seen in actual and realistic practices in all aspects of life in Egypt to maximize human values ​​of peace, love and non-discrimination for any reason and to spread a culture of pluralism, freedom of belief, and in return combat fanaticism and extremism, stressing that this is the strategic direction of the Egyptian state without being linked to a specific time period.

Rady: Sisi Receives Heads of Middle East Churches

Rady noted that the president welcomed the attendees in light of the convening of the General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches for the first time in Egypt since the establishment of the Council in 1968, affirming that the Christian brothers in all Arab countries are an integral part of the fabric of Arab society.

On their side, the participants expressed their happiness to visit Egypt and their honor to meet the president, noting its valuable contributions to human history and its quest for peace, as well as the important role Egypt plays in the Middle East.

They also hailed Egypt’s efforts under the leadership of President Sisi to reach settlements on the urgent and complex problems facing the region which cause great human suffering. They also asserted their support for Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideology, as well as achieving development, construction, and reconstruction in Egypt and the entire Middle East.

In the same context, they discussed ways to enhance various aspects of relations between Egypt and the Middle East Council of Churches, especially with regard to efforts to support dialogue and citizenship, and reject extremism in various countries of the region.

Moreover, Sisi reviewed what has been done in Egypt in terms of the restoration of many archaeological Christian monuments, sites, and churches replete with unique historical manuscripts and icons, as well as the project to revive the path of the Holy Family, within the framework of the interest in protecting the Egyptian Christian heritage.
