Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received, on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wencesland, as part of Egypt’s continued efforts to support the Palestinian cause and efforts to achieve peace in the region, Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said on Twitter.

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process had denounced the Israeli authorities' decision to approve plans to build more than 4,000 housing units in settlements in the occupied West Bank.

He reiterated that all settlements are illegal under international law and constitute a major obstacle to peace process.

He also urged the Israeli authorities to “stop progress in all settlement activities and refrain from such unilateral and provocative measures that fuel instability and undermine the prospects for the establishment of a viable and geographically contiguous Palestinian state within the framework of a negotiated two-state solution based on relevant United Nations resolutions, international law and bilateral agreements.”
