Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's Foreign Minister sent a letter yesterday, Friday, to   chairman of the United Nations (UN) Security Council to explain the developments of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

The council, according to the UN Charter is responsible for keeping security and peace in the world.

FM's letter included Egypt's objection to Ethiopia's intention to fill the dam during the next flood.

The Egyptian minister expressed the full rejection to Ethiopia's movements to impose status quo on the downstream countries (Egypt and Sudan) through unilateral procedures that contradict the binding rules of international law.

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that FM's letter was circulated as an official document to the UN Security Council to uncover Ethiopia's opinionated stances that thwarted efforts over the past months to reach a balanced obliging just agreement in the frame of negotiations sponsored by the African Union (AU).

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez mentioned that a full file at the council about the Ethiopian dam and Egypt's view towards it to be a reference for the international community.

The file also documents responsible constructive stances taken by Egypt throughout a whole decade of negotiations and to show her pure efforts take into account interests of the three countries, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.
